About Russia
Russia Program
Small World has been assisting families to adopt from Russia since 1993. The Foundation received NGO registration and is accredited by the Russian Federation.

Clients adopting from Russia are required to take two trips to complete an adoption. On the initial trip they personally meet their prospective child. During the first trip the prospective parent will sign an official application for a specific child. The adopting parent should expect to be in Russia for approximately 3-5 days, depending on the region in which the child resides. After the prospective parents return to the U.S. and as soon as a final court date can be scheduled, both adopting parents, if applicable, will return to Russia to finalize the adoption.
The adopting parent(s) should anticipate a 6-10 week wait in between trips. Small World has been assisting families to adopt from Russia since 1993. |

Small World families. )
Parents should expect to be in Russia 5-21 days, depending upon the region in which the child resides, during the second trip. Russian law requires that orphaned children be listed on the National Data Bank for eight months prior to being made available for foreign adoption. This process allows for time in which Russian citizens have the option to adopt the available orphans. The youngest a Russian child can be adopted would be approximately ten or eleven months of age.
Russia requires that both adopting parents, if applicable, be present in court for the adoption. Following the adoption, families will proceed to the American Embassy in Moscow, Russia, where they will obtain an American Immigrant Visa for their child to enter the U.S. Also, while in Moscow, the parents are required to register their child with the Russian Emmigration Office.
